Sekolah Lentera Harapan (SLH) opens a new school in Biak Numfor, Papua

Sekolah Lentera Harapan (SLH) is pleased to announce a new school opening in Biak, Papua. This marks the 12th SLH school in the interior of Papua, both in the mountains and wetlands, serving 2,400 students in total.
This new SLH school will use a variety of globally recognized educational materials, curriculum, and credentialed teachers. Among others, the school will use Cambridge textbooks and adopt Cambridge-standard teaching methodology as well as the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) to significantly improve the students’ English and Mandarin proficiency.
Equal access to good quality education is the key to the development and progress of a region, especially in Papua. With God’s blessing, the Pelita Harapan Educational Foundation (YPPH) continues to establish new schools and universities. We seek to be a constant blessing to Papua and this is what spearheads the foundation’s educational mission. We long to see that every student can get to know the Creator and find their calling in life, so that in the future every graduate of our school can go on to the best universities in Indonesia and contribute as an agent of transformation in remote areas of Papua in the fields of education, health and faith.
The dynamic life in Biak, Papua, is now enriched with the presence of Sekolah Lentera Harapan (SLH) Biak. This is the fruit of prayer and struggle for more than 10 years, as an answer to the expectations and invitations from various societal groups in Biak. It is with great elation that we announce the establishment of SLH Biak that will start its first academic year in July 2024. Our prayer is that SLH Biak will be an educational solution to problems faced by this region. This educational institution was built with the aim of providing a conducive teaching-learning environment for the students by promoting academic quality and spiritual growth based on God’s Word.
The establishment of this school marks a new milestone for the community because it offers a modern approach to Christian education that is Christ-centered, holistic and transformative. Through its commitment to delivering quality education, the school aims to meet students' needs in a comprehensive manner by implementing innovative teaching methodology and a balanced curriculum with the participation of families and churches. There is a great hope that SLH Biak will be able to contribute to the educational breakthroughs in Biak through the incorporation of critical and creative thinking concept as well as holistic human development founded on faith.
This endeavor is an answer to the demand for quality education in Biak and reflects the community’s dedication to providing education that balances faith and knowledge with the hope that it will give rise to a generation who possesses Christ-centered character.
There is great hope this initiative will improve the education scene and positively impact social and cultural life in Biak City. As the region progresses, there is growing enthusiasm among the residents to witness the transformation of the vision and mission into a place where the young generation can grow in a well-rounded manner and make a meaningful contribution to society and the city’s development.
