UPH Collaborates with PSSI, Jakpro to make FIFA U-17 World Cup a Success
10-November-2023

Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) entered a partnership with the Government of DKI Jakarta, Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) developer PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), and the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) to make the World Cup U-17 a success.

UPH is pleased to contribute to the success of the U-17 World Cup by allowing the use of UPH’s world-class quality turf, which has been harvested and transported to JIS to be the official turf of the upcoming football competitions. The tournament will be held from November 10 to December 2 in four cities ― Jakarta, Bandung, Solo and Surabaya.

According to FIFA’s recommendation, fine-textured Manila grass (Zoysia matrella), has the appropriate thickness, length, strength and elasticity suitable for an international-standard soccer pitch. This is also the type of grass used in UPH’s international-standard soccer field.

The grass was harvested from UPH training ground in Lippo Village on October 9 using a specially-designed mower to keep the desirable quality. Before it was transported to JIS, it first had to undergo maintenance work in the form intensive watering and fertilizer application for almost three weeks to ensure that it is in prime condition and ready for the kick-off.

“We sincerely hope that the grass we have been growing for years for our students will help bring success to the Indonesian tournament,” said UPH rector Jonathan Parapak. “We are proud Indonesia becomes the host of the U-17 World Cup that will benefit the country and our football.”

PSSI chairman Erick Thohir and Jakpro appreciated UPH’s valuable contribution in ensuring Indonesia’s successful hosting of the biennial international men’s youth football championship.

As part of this collaboration, Pelita Harapan Educational Foundation (YPPH) will be giving away 200 free regular tickets and 5 invitation-based VIP tickets per each match held at JIS.
