UPH Kicks Off the 2023/2024 New Academic Year with UPH Festival

Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) started its new 2023-24 academic year with its yearly three-day UPH Festival celebration. This year, the UPH Festival event embraced the theme “Godly Transformational Leadership.” The UPH Festival oriented the university toward shaping future transformational leaders who possess true knowledge, faith in Christ, and godly character to equip them as future agents of change for the betterment of the country and the world.

The UPH festival aimed to give students the right start to their academic journey by exposing them to Indonesian thought leaders. In addition, the Festival featured various sports activities, arts performances, and faculty showcases.

The first day (August 24) opened with the convocation ceremony, UPH’s welcoming ceremony for all new students. Here, the rector, Dr. (Hon.) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., officially inducted more than 4,500 new students as new members of the UPH family. The students were also introduced to their deans and faculties, followed by Faculty Talk sessions where they participated in stimulating academic discussions led by experts from their respective faculties.

Unlike previous years, this year’s UPH Festival also saw a welcoming ceremony for international students and students from the 3rd batch of the government-sponsored Merdeka Student Mobility (PMM) program.

On the second day (August 25), the students gathered to hear inspirational lectures by distinguished guest speakers who are well-respected public figures in Indonesia. UPH was pleased to welcome the Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin as the main keynote speaker this year.

During the Faculty Orientation, UPH's new students were introduced to their respective faculty leaders, lecturers, academic advisers, and administrative staff. They met with their faculty-level and program-level student associations (HMF/HMPS) and alumni.

Day three (August 26) started with the Founder’s 5K Run held by the Eagles Team of the UPH Department of Sport & Wellness, followed by the Parent’s Gathering, where parents and guardians of new students were invited to meet with leaders of the university, faculties, and departments.

UPH Festival 2023 ended with the Closing Celebration Ceremony, which featured artistic and futuristic performances by the UPH Conservatory of Music in collaboration with UPH Student Life.
