SLH Welcomes Newest School in Parepare — Commencing in July 2024
05-April-2024
A new beacon of educational excellence is shining in Parepare with the establishment of the Sekolah Lentera Harapan (SLH) school in the city in South Sulawesi, about 154km north of the provincial capital Makassar. It is the 31st SLH school nationwide and the sixth on the island of Sulawesi.
As with the other SLH schools, SLH Parepare carries on the mission to provide quality Christian education that is not just about academic achievement, but also one that encompasses a holistic approach to learning. At SLH, the goal of learning is to bring students to know Christ personally, through His word and through the study of various academic disciplines.
SLH Parepare received strong support from the mayor of Parepare, Dr. Drs. Akbar Ali, who attended the school's launching ceremony and expressed his commitment to support the school for Parepare's human capital development.
The school is established in partnership with the Toraja Church. It is part of the Pelita Harapan Educational Foundation’s (YPPH) endeavour to support churches throughout Indonesia by partnering with churches to provide Christian educational content and a takeover of school operations.
Launched on April 1, 2024, SLH Parepare will be staffed by highly skilled and passionate teachers who graduated from UPH International Teachers College. This will ensure that students gain local, national, and international perspectives through a teaching-learning methodology that emphasizes critical and creative thinking to prepare them for success at top universities in Indonesia and beyond.
YPPH hopes that SLH Parepare can help produce intelligent, broad-minded and virtuous students who will become the agents of development, especially in their home city and eastern Indonesia.
“The vision of YPPH is to be a blessing and to transform education based on true knowledge, faith in God and godly character,” said Dr. (H.C.) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., the chairman of YPPH who concurrently serves as the rector of UPH.
SLH Parepare is equipped with good facilities conducive to learning, which include clean, bright and airy classrooms, sports ground, art room, library, and other amenities. It is set to start its inaugural class in July this year for the level of kindergarten (TK), elementary school (SD) and junior high school (SMP), while the senior high school (SMA) is expected to open in 2025.
